Getting the Right People on the Bus

In his book Good to Great, management guru Jim Collins talks about getting the right people on the bus. He emphasizes that you must not only get the right people on the bus, but you must also get them in the right seats.

He also emphasizes that the old adage “People are your most important asset” turns out to be wrong. People are not your most important asset … the right people are.

Over the years – as we’ve built Agenda: USA into the largest and only accredited Destination Management Company (DMC) in Kansas City – we’ve been fortunate to have a lot of good people along for the ride. In fact, one of our “bus riders,” Bruce Adcox, has been with Agenda for 30-plus years … almost since the company’s inception. Bruce’s loyalty remains with the company today because his personal values align with our company’s values: To exceed our client’s expectations.

We recently welcomed two new “bus riders” to the Agenda team: Ryan Smith and Francisca del Villar.

Ryan joined Agenda as Operations Manager and Francisca is Agenda’s new Operations Coordinator.

In his new role, Ryan works closely with both the company’s Event Production and Group Ground Transportation Logistics teams to provide a variety of customized programs for corporate clients and associations. Ryan has extensive operations experience – most recently with OracleCerner and prior to that with Sporting Kansas City – and we are thrilled to have him.

In Francisca’s new role, she supports Ryan and other Agenda team members in providing a variety of services to corporate clients and associations. With a Masters in Tourism and Travel Management from NYU, we love Francisca’s fresh perspective on trends in the hospitality industry.

Both Francisca and Ryan hit the ground running, spending their first week as Agenda team members in Texas assisting with a major client program that went flawlessly. We love their enthusiasm for their roles and their commitment to providing an exceptional client experience.  We couldn’t be happier to have them onboard!

Have you onboarded new team members recently? If so, you can surely relate to the importance of team-building events to ensure everyone “gels.” In fact, team-building activities can help ensure you have the right people “on the bus.”
